Collect money for a group gift Everyone chips in.

One link for the group. Everyone says how much they’re in for, you tick who paid, and the total grows.

0% fees. We never hold your money: it goes straight to you.

Who’s it for?

What are you collecting for?

So people know who’s collecting.

USD

Leave it empty if you’re only collecting. You can add yours later.

No account needed, for you or anyone you share it with.

How to collect money for a group gift

One link does it: no group chat maths, no spreadsheet, nobody chasing anyone by name.

  1. Say who it’s for and what you’re getting

Type their name and the gift, or just “money towards something”. Add a goal if you know the price, and roughly how many people are in, so everyone sees a fair equal share.

  2. Choose how people pay you

Pick the app your group already uses: Venmo, Cash App, Zelle or PayPal in the US, Interac e-Transfer in Canada, a bank transfer in the UK, or cash. The money goes straight from them to you; Giftruly never touches it.

  3. Share one link in the group chat

Paste it in WhatsApp, Slack, Teams, a text or an email. Each person opens it, types a first name and picks an amount. No app and no account, for them or for you.

  4. Tick who paid, then buy it

You see who’s in for how much and tick each payment as it arrives. When you have enough, buy the gift, mark it bought and send everyone one thank-you message.

Paid with the app you already use

Giftruly never holds the money, so there are no fees and nothing to withdraw: each person pays you directly. Sending from a bank account or an app balance is usually free; paying by credit card can add the app’s own fee.

How much should everyone chip in?

What most groups put in, per person. Suggest one amount, say any amount is welcome, and set a goal so the equal share works itself out.

A coworker (farewell, birthday, new baby)

Small enough that nobody feels pushed; the group makes it a real gift.

$10–$25 each

A boss

Gifts mostly go down the ladder, so for a boss the whole team gives one small, warm thing.

$5–$15 each

A teacher (from the class)

A gift card or one lovely thing from everyone beats twenty mugs.

$5–$20 per family

A friend (birthday, wedding)

For a wedding, the group often gets one bigger item from the registry.

$20–$50 each

A parent (from the siblings)

Split evenly, or by what each sibling can manage: amounts stay private.

$50–$150 each

Group gift etiquette, so nobody feels awkward

  • Ask, never assume. Say it’s optional and that any amount is welcome: the link shows first names to the group, never who gave what.
  • Suggest an amount instead of a total. “About $20 each” is easier to say yes to than “we need $200”.
  • Put your own part in first. When the organizer chips in, others follow, and the total isn’t zero when the link arrives.
  • Set a deadline a few days before you need to buy it, so late payers have a day or two and you’re not paying the difference.
  • Sign one card together. A group gift feels personal when the card has everyone’s names on it.
  • Short or over? Short, buy the gift you can afford or add a gift card for the rest; over, put the extra on a gift card for them or give it back. Say which in the thank-you.
  • Thank everyone once, together, when it’s bought: one message to all of them, so they know it landed.

Everyone giving a small present to one person instead? That’s a Secret Santa. Not sure what to get? The gift finder suggests one big gift for the budget your group has.

Questions people ask

How do I collect money for a group gift?

Make one link with Giftruly: who it’s for, what you’re getting, a goal and how people pay you. Share it in the group chat. Each person says how much they’re in for and pays you directly with Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, a bank transfer or cash, and you tick who paid. It’s free and nobody needs an account.

Does Giftruly hold the money?

No. The money goes straight from each person to the organizer with the app you already use, so there are no Giftruly fees and nothing to withdraw. Giftruly only keeps the list of who’s in and who paid.

How much should each person chip in for a group gift?

For a coworker, $10 to $25 each is usual; for a boss, $5 to $15; for a teacher, $5 to $20 per family; for a friend, $20 to $50. Suggest an amount and make it clear any amount is fine: the group sees first names, never amounts.

Can people see how much everyone gave?

No. Everyone sees the total grow and the first names of who’s in. Only the organizer sees each amount and who has paid.

What’s an equal share?

When you set a goal and roughly how many people are in, Giftruly shows everyone the fair share (a $200 gift for 10 people is $20 each). An equal share follows the group: it goes down as more people join, until it’s paid.

Do the people chipping in need an account or an app?

No. They open the link in any browser, type a first name and an amount. They can leave an email for one reminder and the thank-you, and nothing else.

What if we raise more or less than the gift costs?

If it’s short, buy what the money covers or top it up with a gift card. If there’s extra, add a gift card for them or send it back. You can change the goal any time, and the thank-you message is a good place to say what you did.

Is a group gift the same as a Secret Santa?

No. In a Secret Santa everyone gives one person a small gift; in a group gift everyone gives together to one person, so they get one big present instead of many small ones. Giftruly does both, free.
