The Gift Index: what people really look for.

Every day people tell Giftruly who they’re shopping for, and what they’d love themselves. Counted together, with no names attached, that says something nobody else can: what people actually look for and wish for. The Gift Index publishes it, with the method and the raw counts, free to quote.

Updated

In one line

The Gift Index is Giftruly’s series of data pages: anonymous counts of gift searches and wishes, each edition with charts, a CSV, its method and its date. The first edition covers gift searches since 2023; the next one, Christmas 2026 in wishes, comes out in January 2027.

  2. Next · January 2027Christmas 2026 in wishesWhat people put on their Christmas lists this year, counted across every list made with Giftruly, without reading a single list on its own.
    • What did children ask for, by age band?
    • Which wishes showed up on the most lists?
    • How early do people make their Christmas list?
    • How much do Secret Santa groups set as their budget?
Only the cuts that pass the privacy rules below are published. If a question doesn’t have enough lists behind it, it’s left out, not estimated.

How the Gift Index is made

Each edition starts from counts, never from people. A search, a wish on a list or a Secret Santa budget adds one to a tally (an age band, a kind of gift, a week of the year) and nothing more: no names, no email addresses, no free text.

Wishes are grouped by what they are, not how they’re written: “LEGO Botanical orchid” and “the lego flower one” count as the same kind of gift. Anything that can’t be grouped safely is left out.

Every edition says what it counted, over which dates, and how many contributions are behind each number, and comes with the counts as a CSV. Once published, an edition is frozen at its own address; corrections are dated on the page.

The privacy promise

Every number in every edition passes these rules, or it isn’t published.

  • At least 100 people behind every pageA page is only published when at least 100 different people contributed to it.
  • At least 20 behind every itemA wish or a gift shows up only if 20 or more people chose it, so nothing can point back to one list.
  • No free text, everOnly counts of grouped items: nobody’s words are quoted, and no list is shown.
  • Children only in age bandsChildren’s wishes count only by age band (never by age or name), and only from lists their parents made.
  • Nothing linked to a personNo item, count or chart is connected to an account, an email address or a device.
  • Your choiceList makers will see a clear line when they make a list, and can leave their wishes out of the counts in one tap.

Questions people ask

What is the Giftruly Gift Index?

A series of data pages about gift giving, made from anonymous counts of what people search for and wish for on Giftruly. Each edition has charts, a downloadable CSV, its method and its date.

Can I use the numbers in an article?

Yes. Every number and chart is free to use and quote. Please credit Giftruly and, online, link to the edition you used.

Is my wishlist in the Gift Index?

Never on its own. Wishes are only ever counted together with at least 99 other people’s, nothing is published unless 20 people chose it, and no list, name or comment is ever shown.

When is the next edition?

Christmas 2026 in wishes comes out in January 2027, once the season’s lists are complete.

Where does the first edition's data come from?

From the requests people make to the Giftruly gift finder since 2023: who the gift is for, the occasion, the budget and the interests they chose. The edition explains exactly what was counted.
