How Truly finds the gift

Truly is Giftruly's gift finder. It reads what you write the way a friend who knows a lot about gifts would, then picks from a catalog of gifts chosen by people, not by advertisers.

  1. Describe them in your own words

Who they are to you, roughly how old, what they love, the occasion and what you want to spend. A sentence is enough, and every extra detail sharpens the ideas.

  2. Truly matches and explains

It works out the person, the occasion and the budget, matches them against gifts our editors chose for real people, and says why each idea suits them.

  3. Keep, refine, buy

Heart the ideas you like (they're kept in Your Giftruly), change a word and update, or ask for more. Each idea links to a listing, so you can check the price.

What you get back

  • A short summary of what Truly understood, so you can check it got the person right.
  • Gift ideas that fit, each with the reason it suits them and an approximate price.
  • Your budget treated as a limit, not a suggestion, and fewer ideas when there are fewer good ones.
  • Sometimes a labeled “Wildcard”: a less obvious idea for when the safe choices feel flat.

No account, no email, no quiz

You don't sign up or leave an email address. What you type goes to our recommendation service to choose the gifts (Claude, on Amazon Bedrock), and answers may be kept for up to seven days so the same request comes back instantly. Gifts you heart stay on this device, or in your account if you have one. When you buy through our Amazon links we may earn a commission; it never decides what Truly suggests.

Gift finder questions

How is this different from a gift quiz?

A quiz asks everyone the same questions. Here you write what matters about this one person, so a detail like “always cold” or “just retired” actually changes the ideas. It takes about as long as a text message.

What should I write?

Who they are to you, their age, two or three things they love, the occasion and your budget. Things to avoid help just as much: “no more mugs”, “allergic to wool”, “tiny apartment”.

Are the ideas real products I can buy?

Most ideas are gifts from our catalog, matched to a specific product with a photo and a link to its listing. Prices are approximate, so check the retailer before you buy. A wildcard can be a kind of gift rather than one product, with a link that searches for it.

Does it work for any occasion and budget?

Yes: birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, Mother's Day and Father's Day, weddings, new babies, thank-yous or no reason at all, from a small treat to a big splurge. For Christmas there's also a Christmas gift finder with guides for everyone on your list.

Can I share the ideas?

Yes. “Send these to…” turns Truly's answer into a link you can send by WhatsApp, text or email, with a note if you like. You can also heart the ones you like: they're kept in Your Giftruly.
