How we pick gifts

Giftruly has helped people find gifts since 2023. Our catalog contains 2,272 gift ideas, each one chosen for specific people and occasions. Here’s exactly how it works.

1

Start from the person, not the product

Every gift in our catalog is tagged with the kinds of people it suits, the occasions it works for, and the interests it serves. We don’t start from bestseller lists. We start from questions like “what does a dad who loves grilling actually want?”

2

Every pick needs a reason

If we can’t explain in one sentence why a gift works for someone, it doesn’t make the list. That reason is shown on every card, so you can judge the fit yourself instead of trusting a star rating.

3

Quality thresholds for every guide

We only publish a guide when we have enough genuinely good matches. That’s why we have 235 guides, not ten thousand. Thin pages with three random products don’t help anyone.

4

Prices, photos and availability

When we’ve matched an idea to a specific product, the card shows a photo of that product, names it (“Shown: …”) and links to its Amazon listing. Outside the US, the link searches your local Amazon store for the same product, since listings differ between countries. Ideas without a matched product keep an illustration and a link that searches Amazon for the idea. A matched product’s price is its US Amazon price on the day we last checked it; other prices are catalog estimates. Currency conversions use dated ECB reference rates, and local prices may differ. Always check the retailer before buying.

5

How the gift finder works

The instant engine matches your description to the catalog using interests, age, occasion and budget. When AI is available, a model on Amazon Bedrock adds personal explanations and may suggest labeled wildcard ideas. Budgets and exclusions are checked in code, and we show fewer results when there are fewer strong matches. AI can make mistakes. You can refine, reject and save ideas without creating an account.

6

How we make money

Giftruly is free to use. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases made through our Amazon links. Commissions are not an input to our gift rankings.

The Gift Desk: how we work on the guides

Our guides are signed by the Gift Desk, the name we give Giftruly’s editorial work, drawn as a desk: a lamp, a gift being checked and a cup of tea going cold. Each guide is written for one kind of reader. We start from what people ask the gift finder, shortlist ideas from our catalog and keep only the gifts we can explain in a sentence. When we name a specific product, we check the maker’s or a shop’s own page and the Amazon listing first. When a guide is meaningfully revised, the date at the top of the page changes.

AI tools help with research, drafts and translations, but they don't decide what gets published, and commissions never do: every pick has to meet the rules on this page. Spotted a mistake, a dead link or a gift that doesn't belong? Email contact@giftruly.com and we'll fix it.
