Easter 2027 and 2028, by country
Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after March 21 (the church's fixed spring equinox), so it falls between March 22 and April 25. Every country in the table keeps the same Sunday; what changes is which days around it are holidays, and who brings the chocolate.
| Country | 2027 | 2028 | Rule and how it’s kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| The USEaster | Easter baskets and egg hunts. Good Friday isn't a federal holiday. | ||
| The UKEaster | Good Friday and Easter Monday are bank holidays (Easter Monday not in Scotland). | ||
| CanadaEaster | Good Friday is a holiday across the country. | ||
| FrancePâques | Easter Monday is a holiday. The church bells “fly to Rome” and bring chocolate back. | ||
| GermanyOstern | Good Friday and Easter Monday are holidays; the Easter bunny hides eggs and small gifts. | ||
| SpainPascua | Good Friday is a holiday everywhere and Holy Thursday in most regions. | ||
| ItalyPasqua | Easter Monday (Pasquetta) is a holiday; chocolate eggs hide a surprise inside. |
Why Orthodox Easter is often later
Orthodox churches compute Easter with the older Julian calendar, which runs 13 days behind. The two Easters coincide some years and are up to five weeks apart in others.
