Most advent calendars have 24 doors, one for each day from December 1 to Christmas Eve; a few have a 25th for Christmas Day, and some 12-day versions cover only the final stretch. Stores start stocking them as early as September, and the popular ones (LEGO, Pokémon, well-known beauty brands) often sell out in November. A good rule is to buy by mid-November and have it in hand, or at the recipient’s door, by about November 25. That leaves a margin for slow deliveries.
