How it works
Start your group
Your name, the people you know, a budget and the day. Paste a list from a group chat if you like.
Share one link
Send the group’s link to your family or team chat, or show its QR code: everyone adds their own name. Or send each person their private link, or an email.
Draw, then unwrap
When everyone’s in, draw the names with Santa’s hat. Each person holds their gift to unwrap their name, and only theirs.
Draw names your way
No email, no sign-up
Nobody makes an account or gives an email address to take part. Add the names, draw, and each person opens their own private link to see who they have. An email is only for people who want reminders.
Secret Santa by text or WhatsApp
Send each person their link from your phone's share menu, straight into WhatsApp, Messages or any chat. Or paste the group link in your family chat and everyone adds their own name. On a computer, the message is copied, ready for Slack, Teams or email.
Exclusions: couples kept apart
Tap “Pairs who shouldn't draw each other”, then two names: partners, roommates, last year's pair. They won't get each other in either direction, and the draw tells you if the rules leave no fair way to draw.
Odd number of people? It just works
Secret Santa doesn't need pairs. The draw makes one loop (Ann gives to Ben, Ben to Cleo, Cleo back to Ann), so 3, 5 or 7 people work as well as 8. A group can have 3 to 50 people.
The best part: unwrapping your name
No paper slips and no peeking. When names are drawn, each person presses and holds their gift, and it opens on their phone only. Try it.
Everything a gift exchange needs
Secret for everyone
Even the organizer only sees their own match, so they can play too. The full draw is only shown if they choose to reveal it, after the gifts.
Your own private link
Each link is for one person, and they can see if anyone else ever opened it.
Wishes that help
Interests, “I’d love…”, “I don’t want…”, sizes. Only the person who draws you sees them.
Gift ideas from Truly
Your match’s wishes and the budget go to Giftruly’s gift finder, which suggests ideas that fit.
Ask anonymously
Coffee or tea? Ask your person without giving yourself away, and answer your own Secret Santa.
Couples don’t draw each other
Tap two names and they won’t get each other, either way. The draw makes one big loop, so nobody simply swaps gifts.
Latecomers welcome
Someone joins or drops out after the draw? Only one name changes. No redraw for everyone.
The big reveal
On the day, start the reveal: everyone holds their gift again to see who had them.
Next year in one tap
Run it again with the same people, budget and couples, and nobody gets last year’s person.
One phone? Fine
Around the dinner table, pass one phone and let each person unwrap their name in turn.
Any phone, any browser
Nothing to install. It works on iPhone, Android or a laptop, and the link opens straight in WhatsApp or Messages.
Deletes itself
Groups delete themselves 30 days after the exchange, or when the organizer says. No ads, ever.

Questions people ask
Is this Secret Santa generator free?
Yes, completely. There's no account, no app to install and no ads. Giftruly earns a small commission when someone buys a gift through an Amazon link, which never costs you anything extra.
How do people join without an account?
Add everyone’s names and each person gets their own private link, with a message ready for WhatsApp, Messages or email. They open it and they’re in: no code, no PIN, no account. Their browser remembers them, and if they keep it in their Giftruly, it’s on all their devices.
Can we do Secret Santa over WhatsApp?
Yes. WhatsApp can’t draw names, but it’s how most groups share the link. Start the group here, paste its link in your family or friends’ chat and everyone adds their own name. When everyone’s in, draw: each person opens their link to see who they have, and nobody else sees it, not even the organizer. No app to install, no account.
Can the organizer see who drew whom?
No. The draw happens on our server and each person is only ever sent their own match, organizer included, so the organizer can play like everyone else. After the exchange, the organizer can choose to reveal the whole loop to the group.
How do I keep couples from drawing each other?
Tap “Pairs who shouldn’t draw each other”, then two names. They won’t get each other in either direction. Add as many pairs as you need, and the draw tells you if the rules leave no fair way to draw.
What if someone joins late or drops out after the draw?
Just add or remove them on your board. Giftruly slots the newcomer into the circle, or closes the gap someone leaves, so only one person (sometimes two) gets a new name, and they’re told. Fixing a misspelled name changes nothing at all.
Can someone without a phone take part?
Yes. Everyone on the list is in the draw, phone or not. They can open their link on any computer later, or you can use the one-phone mode at the table.
What happens to our data?
Groups hold first names, wishes and messages, and an email address only for people who add one for reminders. Wishes and chats are erased 30 days after the exchange day. If someone keeps the group in their Giftruly, only its setup stays (names, couples, budget) so you can run it again next year without repeat pairs.
Does anyone get emails?
Only people with an email in the group. If the organizer adds someone’s address, we email them their private link. People who add their own get a note when names are drawn, when someone writes to them, and on reveal day. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe. Nobody else gets anything from us.
How many people can take part?
From 3 to 50 people per group. For bigger offices, split into teams with a group each.
Does Secret Santa work with an odd number of people?
Yes. Nobody is paired off: everyone gives to one person and gets from another, in one loop, so 3, 5 or 11 people all work. A group can have up to 50 people.
